Where to Stay in Somaliland

Somaliland offers a growing range of accommodation options, from comfortable business hotels to budget guesthouses. Most options are concentrated in Hargeisa, with additional choices in Berbera and Burao.

Hargeisa Hotels

Maansoor Hotel ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The most established and respected hotel in Hargeisa. Maansoor offers comfortable rooms, a well-regarded restaurant, conference facilities, and reliable Wi-Fi. Popular with business travelers, NGO workers, and tourists alike. Located centrally in the city.

Rays Hotel ⭐⭐⭐

A solid mid-range option with clean, comfortable rooms and a good on-site restaurant. Well-located for exploring the city. Popular with both local and international guests.

Landmark Hotel ⭐⭐⭐

A comfortable option near the city center offering modern amenities and a welcoming atmosphere. Good value for money with a pleasant dining area.

Oriental Hotel ⭐⭐⭐

Centrally located with comfortable rooms and dependable service. A reliable mid-range choice for visitors to Hargeisa.

Budget Guesthouses

Several affordable guesthouses operate throughout Hargeisa offering basic but clean rooms from as little as $20–$40 USD per night. Ask locally or check travel forums for current recommendations.

Berbera Accommodation

Berbera has a smaller selection of accommodation, mostly guesthouses and a few small hotels near the beach and port area. Options are more basic than Hargeisa but growing rapidly as tourism develops along the coast. Some beach resorts are under development.

Sheikh & Other Towns

Small guesthouses operate in Sheikh, Burao, and other towns. These are very basic but functional for travelers on overland journeys.

  • Book ahead during November–February (peak season) and around Somaliland Independence Day (May 18)
  • Most hotels accept USD cash — credit card acceptance is limited
  • Wi-Fi is available at most mid-range and above hotels
  • Air conditioning is essential during hot months (June–September)
  • Contact hotels directly by phone or email for reservations — online booking platforms have limited coverage

Camping

Wild camping is possible in rural areas but should only be attempted with a local guide and appropriate permissions. There are no established campsite facilities.
